One step forward, one back in Ukraine

Russian and Ukrainian officials signed a deal to resume Ukraine’s grain exports on Friday, and by Saturday, Russia was accused of “barbarism” after a missile attack on the port of Odesa. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said it shows that Russia can’t be trusted, and he has vowed to acquire air defence systems to stop those attacks in the future. Under the deal hailed a significant breakthrough, Russia agreed not to target ports while grain shipments were in transit. It’s been a big issue to resolve because about 20 million tonnes of grain are in silos at Ukraine’s ports, unable to leave because of the war. It’s a major economic issue for Ukraine that’s also led to food shortages/price rises across Africa.
