Too close to call…
And the winner is… cool your jets, sunshine. We don’t know who will control the US Congress for the next 2 years. The Republicans should take the House of Representatives – out of 435 seats, the Democrats had a small buffer of 5 – but the Democrats are more competitive than expected. And in the Senate, both parties are holding their ground. That means President Joe Biden’s Democrats seem to have held back the ‘Red wave’. That’s not a nasty condition requiring anger management therapy – it’s shorthand for the Republicans winning seat after seat, which hasn’t happened. Long story short: unlike past midterms, which have brought massive swings in power, this year looks modest. Along with electing members of the US Congress, 36 states also voted for their governor – and Ron DeSantis’s strong win in Florida is noteworthy. He’s thought to be former president Donald Trump’s main competitor to be the Republicans’ presidential candidate in 2024.
