Hackers who stole the personal information of 9.7 million Medibank customers have posted what looks to be the remainder of the files online. Reports say 6 zipped data files were dropped on the dark web early yesterday, along with the message “case closed”. But cyber security experts haven’t been so quick to believe that and are questioning whether it is the last leak of information. Medibank says it’s still analysing the latest data dump but believes it is genuine. The past few weeks have seen the hackers release smaller batches of customer details online after the health insurer refused to cough up a $15 million ransom. Medibank boss David Koczkar apologised to customers again and says anyone concerned should contact the company’s cyber response hotlines. It comes as Australia’s privacy watchdog confirms it’s investigating the company over whether it did enough to protect customers’ personal information and whether it complied with official guidelines.
