Friday Lites – 27 August 2021

The Newsreader made its way around our group chats this week – and for good reason. Set in a 1980s newsroom, the ABC drama is packed with nostalgia, romance and office politics – all while Australia’s biggest media moments are happening in the background. Five stars, Margaret.

Charlie Watts’ death this week saw the good and great of music say pretty much the same thing about the Rolling Stones’ drummer: he was a “lovely guy”. We dug up this episode of the BBC’s Desert Island Discs to get to know him a bit better. It’s a good listen for your Saturday morning walk/chores.

Egg-phobiacs look away… How about something quick and simple to whip up this weekend? Yotam Ottolenghi’s braised eggs with leek and za’atar is a winner. It’s one of those goodies that works for breaky, lunch or dinner.
