The Australian Rugby League Commission has approved the expansion of the NRL women’s competition, taking it to 10 teams. That sees 4 clubs set to join the 2023 season. The NRL previously said 2 more teams would be added to next year’s lineup and another 2 would join in 2024. But the NRL was convinced by the strength of the teams’ bids and the Canberra Raiders, Cronulla Sharks, North Queensland Cowboys and Wests Tigers sides have been fast-tracked to come on board. Not everyone’s cheering… Key figures including NSW/Dragons captain Kezie Apps and Blues coach Kylie Hilder are concerned it will see talent too thinly spread. But all 4 teams say they have strong squads. Similar concerns have been voiced by critics of the AFLW’s expansion plans, but advocates say it can provide more opportunities for new talent to emerge
