Counting the votes in 2 notable elections

In Thailand, incumbent PM Prayuth Chan-ocha in the country’s general election. Chan-ocha is the military general who led the last leadership coup in 2014 – so there’s a bit of history there… As of Monday morning (with votes still being counted), the youth-led Move Forward Party has taken a stunning lead, followed closely by the populist Pheu Thai party, and Prayuth’s party a distant fifth. And in Turkey, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s 2-decade rule is being threatened by a struggling economy and a nation devastated by the February 6 earthquakes. His main contender is Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, a “mild-mannered former bureaucrat” who promised to restore the country’s economy and democratic institutions. Vote tallies began in the wee hours of Monday, and it looks as if no candidate will win over 50% of the vote and Turkey will head to a run-off election on May 28…
